Ragnaud
The cognacs from Marcel Ragnaud have the highest grade, which cognac can get: the 'Premier Cru de Cognac'. The whole vineyard area of the region of Cognac is divided into seven different parts (French: Cru). The cognac of the very best vineyard area is classified 'Premier Cru'. Marcel Ragnaud's possession, the Domaine de la Voûte, is situated in the centre of Grand Champagne. Ragnaud vouches personally for the guarantee, that only spirits of the Grand Champagne are stored in his cellars and that only he sells products, which come from his vineyard 'La Voûte'. He grows the wine himself, harvests and distils it, too. Afterwards the distillate ripens under his control. Even bottling and putting labels on is done by Ragnaud directly. There is one more thing to be mentioned: Nearly all Cognac-Houses have a speciality in their offers: this is an old Grande Fine Champagne. But only a few, like Ragnaud, offer all qualities from V.S. to V.S.O.P and finally to the oldest one, the 'La Paradise', with the highest grade 'Grand Fine Champagne - Premier Cru de Cognac' The Ragnauds are wine growers and distillers having their own tradition. Since 1850, they have lived on 'Domaine de la Voute'. Monsieur Gaston Briand, father of today's Madame Ragnaud, was the founder of the well reputed House Ragnaud. His daughter married the today's senior of the company, Monsieur Marcel Ragnaud, who comes from one of the oldest wine-distilling-families of this area. Today, their daughter Annie runs the House Ragnaud's business together with her husband, Monsieur Sabourin. They still follow the big tradition of the small House. The younger V.S. and V.S.O.P. qualities of the House have the name 'Ragnaud-Sabourin' on their labels. Products available from Maison Marcel Ragnaud in Germany (all having the grade 'Premier Cru Grande Champagne') are: A. Ragnaud - Sabourin (40 %), Marcel Ragnaud V.S.O.P. (41 %), Réserve Spéciale (43 %), Réserve Fontvieille Extra Grand Réserve (43 %), Héritage de Madame P. Ragnaud (41 %) and Héritage Gaston Briand 'Le Paradis' (41 %).
