Ziegler No 1

Ziegler No 1 is a wild-cherry-distillate of special quality. The wild-cherry trees grow in a few quarries near the river Main. The fruit of the tree is much smaller than normal cherries. The fruit's stone is bigger compared to the fruit's pulp, but it gives the special almond-taste to the aromatic distillate. About 11 kilograms of the rare wild cherry is needed to produce one litre of wild cherry distillate. Ziegler's Frankish wild cherry noble distillate is mixed from up to 25 years old Cuvées. Aging causes the smooth fullness of the distillate, the Cuvées add the intensive aroma. Thr fruit is carefully distilled in small copper distilling plants, like it was done in former times. Bottling, closing, labeling and sealing of each bottle is done by hands. The House of Ziegler has existed since 1864, and is run in the third generation, by father and son, today. Because there is only little harvest-amount, only 3,000 to 5,000 bottles of Ziegler No 1 are produced yearly. Alcohol content: 43 %. Furthermore available is: Ziegler William's Pear Distillate (43 %) and Ziegler Marc Distillate (42 %).

Zubrovka (Zubrowka)

Zubrovka or Toon Vodka is the name of Russian and Polish vodkas, which are aromatised by adding buffalo grass or extracts of buffalo grass. The cumarin-containing grass causes a waldmeister-similar taste of the vodka and the light yellow to brown colour. The name comes from the Polish word for wild-buffalo (also Toon or Wisent).

Zwack

The company of Zwack was founded in Budapest in the middle of the 19th century. After World War II ended, the family emigrated to Italy, sometimes with a few adventures. Today, the company J. Zwack & Co is situated in Florence. Before World War I, Zwack was the most important spirituous liquors producer in Middle- and East Europe. More than 220 different distillates were available from Zwack on the market. And already those days, Zwack's stomache-bitter "Unicum" was the most famous product. About 200 years ago, the royal doctor Dr. Zwack, an ancestor of the today's owner of the company, Peter Zwack, invented the Unicum. The product is still produced from more than 40 herbs and roots, according to the recipe of Dr. Zwack. The "World Guide to Spirits" writes about Unicum and its unspectacular design: " A label as meant for medicine. A bottle shaped like a anarchist's bomb and a solution of the society's problem of expanding - so Unicum is a classic amongst the 'After-Dinner-Amaros'." A famous Zwack-product was and still is the marille-distillate "Barack Palinka", which is produced in Vienna and Lizenz today. Seven kilograms of marille is necessary to produce one bottle of Zwack Barack Palinka. The alcohol is only distilled from fermented fruit. Additions of different alcohol is not done. Available from Zwack in Germany are: Marille Distillate Barack Palinka (40 %) and Amaro Digestivo Unicum (42 %).

Zwetschgen Water

The wide spread aromatic, sweet autumn-zwetschge grows in many different ways, mainly in South-Gemrany (Franken, Baden and Wuerttemberg), in Alsace (Quetsche), in Switzerland (Pfluemli Water), in Austria, Yugoslavia (Slivovitz), in Hungary and Czech Republic. It is used to produce Zwetchgen Water. Minimum alcohol content: 40 %.

Zytnia

Extra Zytnia is one of the most popular Vodkas from Poland. It is produced from rye to 100 %. It does not contain any additional ingredients and is known for its pureness. Alcohol content: 40 %.
